Gram Bharti is working in 8 districts of eastern UP covering about 25 blocks among the SC/ ST/ OBC/ minority and the excluded sections of the society, including women, children and farmers. It has mobilized and organized them in 200 women SHGs; 300 Mahila mandals; 100 youth clubs and 100 Kishan clubs in 100 villages. It has also organized the young boys and girls in 20 Babu Bahini Manch in the Kushinagar district of Uttar Pradesh.

Education & awareness: Education & awareness programmes on energy conservation were organized in 500 villages in the 20 districts of UP and 600 villages in Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan, Himachal and Uttaranchal. Demonstration centers for installation of diesel engines and rectification of engines were established in 25 villages of different states. About 10000 farmers, children of 1000 schools and 4000 truck drivers and other vehicle drivers were benefited from this.

Treadle Pump: As a part of food security programme, 2000 energy saving treadle pumps was installed in 100 villages of Deoria, Mou, Gorakhpur and Kushinagar districts of UP. The treadle pumps benefited 10,000 small and excluded peasants to cultivate vegetable at low cost.

Water & sanitation: Water and sanitation is a major health and woman issue in the rural areas. Water & sanitation related diseases infect the women and the children most. Thus, Gram Bharti organized water and sanitation awareness programme in 50 villages. The Mahila Mandals and SHG members were involved in the awareness programme. It also had led block sub-division and district level campaigns on water and sanitation.

Woman empowerment: Gram Bharti’s activities for women empowerment, included awareness & education, leadership development & motivation, women & child health, income generation and enhance the decision making power in the Panchayati Raj Institutions.

Health & nutrition: Gram Bharti worked on health and nutrition in all the operational villages of Uttar Pradesh. In this connection, awareness camps and interfaces were organized and community based health care system was promoted at the village level.

Livelihood promotion: Gram Bharti facilitated 500 rural poor and excluded communities in getting job cards and applications for works under the NREGA programme. It has organized 200 SHGs in different villages for saving and credit. About 200 SHG members undertook petty business and small farming.

AIDS/TB/Encephalitis: Gram Bharti conducted programs for control of TB/AIDS and encephalitis in 50 villages through education and awareness building, identifying infected patients and sending them to hospitals for treatment.

Crematorium: As a part of environmental protection and fuel saving activities, Gram Bharti constructed 10 fuel efficient and environment protecting crematorium benefiting 100 villages.

NGO networking: Gram Bharti is a network partner of AVARD (New Delhi), Sathi (UP), UP Voluntary Health Association (Lucknow), Gram Niyojan Kendra (Ghaziabad).

Advocacy: Gram Bharti is involved in advocacy for control of AIDS, conservation of fuel, promotion of food security through rural technology and women empowerment.
